I have a couple beauty products that are my must-haves, like my brow pencil or dry shampoo (honestly a lifesaver), but I’ve never really been a fan of lipstick. Recently, though, they’ve started piquing my interest. I’ve added some new lipsticks to my collection, so I figured I’d share them with you! Also, please excuse the fact that my micellar water is in the background of some of these photos...the less glamorous side of trying on EIGHT LIPSTICKS IN A ROW (thank you Chapstick!!).
The first two are both from MAC’s Metallic collection. I’m not sure if these are limited edition, but at least one of them is sold out on MAC’s website (Jupiter) and when I first discovered them, they were sold out all over the DFW area!
While on my search, a MAC employee suggested I try Modern Midas instead. The colors are slightly different, though they both have a beautiful, glittery payoff. Modern Midas is really just gold -- perfect for any bronzey look!
I eventually did stumble upon a tube of Jupiter, I think at a Dillard’s counter. Jupiter has a little bit more of a deeper color, almost like a dark rose gold, heavy on the gold.
I really like the finish of both of these, because they weren’t thick or heavy or drying. Somehow, even with the glitter, there was something almost natural about them (maybe it’s because I got some of the shades closest to a nude...there are a bunch of crazy colors in the metallic line!). They’re definitely really fun, and my mom even picked up a tube of Disobedient, the burgundy metallic shade.
Next up, I have two Soft Matte Lip Creams from NYX. I think I got these at CVS, because I always make the mistake of wandering over to the makeup aisle and taking advantage of any buy one, get one 50% off sales they have going on. In the bottle, I really liked the colors of both of these, but I think part of the reason I wasn’t a huge fan of these was because of those colors.
The first shade I tried is Cairo (#16), which the NYX website describes as a matte pure nude. On camera, I think it looks okay, even though I’m making a bunch of faces because I wasn’t a huge fan of how it looked in person. It’s a lot lighter than my usual nude choice, and I feel like it made me a little washed out.
The second shade was Buenos Aires (#12), a “soft coral.” I don’t think this shade is soft at all -- at least on me, it kind of looked like I was going to a midnight showing of It. These shades just weren’t the best on me! Plus, I wasn’t a big fan of the cream formula. I like a standard liquid formula or a cream in a stick better, I found!
Next up on the docket… an itsy bitsy Sephora haul. Whoops.
The first product is by Tarte. It’s their Tarteist Quick Dry Matte Lip Paint in Exposed, a rosy nude color. Oh my gosh. This is one of my favorite products from the whole haul. It was super comfortable to wear, even though it was nice and matte, and the color was amazing. This is my first Tarte lip product, and I might have to stock up, it’s that good.
Next, we have a Vice lipstick from Urban Decay! This shade, Pallor, is in the Vintage Capsule collection. This is where I got my first evidence that I actually don’t mind a cream formula as long as it’s not pretending to be liquid!! Also, the color...I think my face says it all!
Purple and grey are two of my favorite colors, and this is such a perfect blend. This lipstick made me feel like a zombie princess. I know that’s weird, but it’s so true. The grey undertones are so weird and somehow elegant...it’s hard to describe it, but this is a definite fave.
Finally, the last two new additions to my lipstick family are both Revlon, from the Super Lustrous collection. I got one in the creme formula and one in the shine formula.
I tried the creme first, in Rose Velvet (#130), and I think the color payoff is great in this!! I was really surprised by how much color I got with just one swipe when I initially swatched it. This kind of color is my perfect rose -- dark, with definite beige undertones. And the finish was really comfortable!
The very last lipstick was in the Shine formula, in the shade Pink Cognito (#820). This was so pretty and natural-looking, and the formula was really lightweight and felt hydrating, which is great! It’s definitely a lipstick for those who don’t like to look like they have a bunch of lipstick on.
So there you have it! Eight new lipsticks. Let me know in the comments below if you’ve tried any of these, or if you have any recommendations for my next lipstick spree!
Until next time~
