March 2018 Goals

March 2018 Goals

As we move to wrap up the first quarter, it's the perfect time to take a look at those January goals and reevaluate! With the help of Your Best Year 2018 by Lisa Jacobs, I'm setting some goals for March and getting ready to start the second quarter with a bang!

As y'all may remember, last month, I outlined one goal for each of the 18 I set at the beginning of the year, and then wrote in little habit trackers in my bullet journal. This method didn't really work for me -- it was too much to track, and I definitely got overwhelmed by the number of goals I needed to be working on. So, this month, I'm focusing on just three areas of my life that I want to work on!

1. Consistency

Consistency is the perfect overarching concept for a ton of my goals this year. Many of my goals have to do with practicing something, or learning something, or working on something, as often as I can! This month, I really want to be more consistent at those habits, some of which include: daily Bible study/devotionals; knitting every day; practicing my lettering and calligraphy; reading daily, and language study. I'm trying to develop a morning routine (stay tuned for that post!) that will help me easily work in some of those habits before my day even really starts.

To help me with the idea of consistency, I used the monthly spread in Your Best Year to schedule in sessions for things like knitting, calligraphy, or a long Bible study a few times a week. This way, working on myself feels like an appointment I can't miss -- plus, let's be real, it feels great to check things off a to-do list!

2. Capability

One of my major goals for this month is to do taxes. Yes, I know, soooo interesting. But as a 19-year-old, this is the first year that I'm actually having to do taxes (I've had jobs in the past, but nothing where I made enough money to actually get taxed). I also want to start looking into investing this month -- sound familiar? I say that EVERY month -- and finish applying to summer internships.

The reason I've chosen "capability" as the word to summarize these goals actually has to do with Your Best Year. Every month, there's a section where you write your goals, and immediately beside it, a section titled, "What Fears Are Holding You Back from Achieving This?" For things like taxes and investments that I don't know much about yet, I wrote, EVERYTHING! With a little scared face (sometimes emojis are the only things that can truly convey the emotion of a moment. Sorry, words). As for internships, when being honest with myself, I'm afraid of rejection. I need to remember that I AM capable, both of learning new things and of holding my own in new situations.

3. Perseverance

Yes, I know, I'm disappointed too that I couldn't keep the alliteration going!! But perseverance is the perfect word for this next goal. I'm working on a few personal writing projects right now. When I was thinking about the fears holding me back from actually finishing any of those projects, the answer was clear. I'm worried I'll fizzle out and run out of ideas! I'm sure many of you are familiar with writer's block, and when it comes to my writer's block, I'm much more likely to just walk away from a project than keep chipping away at it.

Not this time! I really love the ideas I'm working on, and my goal is to just write a little every day. Even if I don't end up keeping those words if (and WHEN) I ever end up finishing the project, I just want to keep the momentum going every day. Integrating writing into my daily routines is going to really help with this goal!

What are your goals for March?!

How are YOU finishing STRONG?!

Until next time ~

XOXO, Maria
