Movies I'm Looking Forward to in 2018
After Friday's post about the upcoming albums of 2018 I'm most excited for, I thought it was only right to do a partner post about movies! I don't go see that many movies in theaters, but I have a feeling quite a few of these will lure me in. Here are the top five movies, in the order of their release, that I can't wait to see in 2018!
Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda, the book that Love, Simon is based off of, has been on my to-read list for quite some time, so now I have a deadline -- March 16, when Love, Simon hits theaters! I love the feel-good vibe of this movie, and how, in the best way possible, it's just another teen romcom. Sure, it's a movie about coming out, but it's lighthearted and happy and high-school, nothing too deep or down. Plus, who doesn't love that line at the end -- "PS: It doesn't seem fair that only gay people have to come out. Why is straight the default?" And then all the scenes of Simon's friends and their parents. What a strong, poignant message, wrapped in flawless delivery and humor -- this movie's gonna be a good one, folks!
To my family, the Ocean's movies are total classics. Our favorite is, of course, Ocean's 11 -- you just can't top the original. OR CAN YOU. When I heard that there was going to be an all-women addition to the Ocean's series, I flipped out. When I saw the stellar cast list? Well I'm sure you can only imagine! Sandra Bullock is one of my favorite actresses, and when you add in everyone else...this group of gals is going to give Clooney, Pitt & Company a run for their money. Literally.
Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again
Ah, yet another sequel to one of my all-time favorite movies. I've seen Mamma Mia! once live, and countless times on DVD. There isn't a thing I'd change about it, except to add a sequel...and that wish will be coming true this July! I love that it's not fully a timeskip movie, so we still get to see the beloved cast from the original (although hopefully Pierce Brosnan won't have to sing anymore). Plus, I just love Lily James -- I haven't seen her in Cinderella or Baby Driver, but her stint on Downton Abbey was enough to launch me onto her bandwagon, and come on, she was Elizabeth Bennet in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. What more could you ask? Oh, just casually playing young Meryl Streep. I can't wait to be bopping along to all my ABBA favorites while James pulls off that near-impossible feat!
Mary Queen of Scots
I'm a huge history nerd, and Mary Queen of Scots is one of my most beloved historical figures. I just think she is so interesting, and I love anything Tudor England, so this movie seems right up my alley! Plus, Margot Robbie's transformation into Elizabeth Tudor in the few photos I've seen so far is wild. She doesn't look like herself at all, and I can't wait to see her truly become Elizabeth! Saoirse Ronan as Mary Stuart is going to be so much fun to watch. She is truly becoming such a force in the acting world, and I can't wait to see her take on Mary!
Mary Poppins Returns
Finally, a perfect Christmas present to me from Disney!! Starring Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins, this movie is bound to be a favorite just like the live-action Beauty and the Beast was. Even better, Lin-Manuel Miranda will be acting in it! And of course, the fact that Dick van Dyke will be returning in a cameo role just puts it over the top. He's the only member of the original movie to be returning, after Julie Andrews turned them down because she wanted all the focus to be on Blunt. Can you say classy?! Emily Blunt has got some big shoes/handbag/umbrella/etc. to fill, but I have a feeling this movie will live up to the hype!
Until next time ~
