My (Ideal!) Fall 2017 Morning Routine!

I'm one of those people who totally LOVES the concept of having a perfectly tailored morning routine and following it every day. Unfortunately, sometimes life gets in the way, and because I haven't quite figured out how to be a morning person just yet, it's more often than not just simple user error that sends my routine out the window. Oops. 

With that being said, I did want to outline my IDEAL morning routine, in the hopes of inspiring both my readers and myself! 

1. STRETCH 

This is something I do nearly every day, because I really think easing yourself awake is much better than just jumping out of bed, expecting to feel perfectly ready for the day. It's not quite as formal as a yoga routine, but it does usually involve a child's pose at some point or another! 

2. AFFIRMATIONS 

I like to light a candle -- I've been loving the Happiness candle from Bath & Body Works to start my mornings off right -- before this next step. It just really helps with good vibes! I like to pick just a few affirmations to repeat to myself while listening to some morning-time binaural beats from my Beatfulness app -- "Take on the World" has been my favorite lately. 

3. VITAMINS + GLASS OF WATER 

I take a probiotic first thing in the morning, as well as some gummy B-12 vitamins. Washing those down with a full glass of water really helps wake me up; every so often, I do like coffee or caffeinated tea, but I try to stay away from it as much as possible. Just plain water wakes me up well enough, and if there's lemon in it, that's even better! A tip -- for me, room temperature water is much easier to drink quickly than water that's hot or cold, and makes me feel hydrated right away.

4. MAKE BED

Such an important, obvious step that I must admit, sometimes gets looked over on my busier mornings! Just making my bed and picking up my throw pillows from where they've been, well, thrown on the floor the night before makes my room look so much nicer and also makes me feel accomplished to start the day!

5. 10-MINUTE TIDY

No matter how long I clean my room, it always seems to be a little bit of a mess in the morning. Usually, I get into my pajamas right before bed and just leave my clothes and shoes from the day before on the floor, as well as my bag(s) and anything else I used during the day. Not a great habit, oops. Setting a timer for just ten minutes and maybe putting on an audiobook or a great playlist lets the tidy-up time fly by, and then my room is a clean haven for the rest of the day -- at least until I repeat everything in the evening!

6. READ ONE CHAPTER

Although fiction is my favorite genre, I've started getting more and more into non-fiction recently. I like reading something that could count as personal development first thing in the morning. I just started Tim Gunn's book The Natty Professor: A Master Class on Mentoring, Motivating, and Making It Work! and I absolutely love it so far. Not only am I a huge Tim Gunn fan, but as someone who would love to be a teacher one day, I really love reading others' opinions on teaching. 

7. DEVOTIONAL

The last step of this ideal morning routine is a short devotional. Recently, I've been using this journal that I picked up at Cracker Barrel, of all places, and I love how one side of each spread has different quotes from the Bible or scholars that correspond to one theme for the day. Once I finish this journal, I plan to start a more in-depth Bible study as my morning devotional, but this is a great way to get started! 

Even though I don't have time for every part of this morning routine every day, having it in my mind helps me pick the few that I can accomplish when I wake up. Plus, it's something to strive for -- I'd love to do all seven of these things every day, but I'll let you know when that happens!!
